Anxiety therapy for women in San Francisco and online throughout California

Therapy for Anxiety

Life’s too short to let anxiety dictate who you are.

Young, high-achieving women disproportionately struggle with anxiety.

You’ve been prioritizing the needs of others since you could walk and talk. The word you say most is sorry, and your emails are littered with exclamation points. Filters and fillers convince you that your body is the enemy. You need to appear desirable, but your desirability can also compromise your safety, and your credibility. Your career ambitions are encouraged, but you feel like you have to be perfect in order to prove yourself. You’re dealing with the trauma from your past, and the expectation that you will be the one to hold it all together for your family.

You’re anxious? No kidding.

Sound like you?

  • Your mind is always working: replaying conversations, planning ahead, or scanning for what might go wrong

  • Your body has a hard time relaxing–maybe you experience muscle tightness, panic attacks, hair loss, or difficulty sleeping

  • You live in your head, and have a hard time staying present

  • If you don’t know how to solve a problem right away, you remain in a state of overthinking until you do

  • When it’s your time to be visible–speak up at work, voice your opinion, give that presentation–you freeze, saying far less than you imagined in your head

  • You have a hard time knowing what you want to do, and spend most of your time thinking about what you should do, or what you’re doing wrong

  • You seek reassurance from others (or the internet) every time you make a decision

You’re anxious for good reasons, and it’s not your fault. But maybe you’re starting to fear that it will feel like this for the rest of your life–and you’re ready to make a change.

How I Help:

My approach is trauma-informed and influenced by mindfulness and somatic therapy.

When working together we might:

  • Build your mental map: We’ll track your triggers and habitual responses, and start to interrupt those patterns when they arise

  • Develop coping strategies: We’ll experiment with different techniques for calming the body, so you can act from a place of consciousness and clarity

  • Understand the why: We’ll give your anxiety a voice and get curious about the purpose it’s serving, what it may be protecting you from, and what other emotions may lie underneath

  • Fill in the bigger picture: We’ll start to form a picture of how the systems around you contribute to the anxiety you feel in the present

  • Get clear on what you want: We’ll work to clarify what makes the stress and anxiety of life feel worth it

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
